How to reset the oil service light on Ford Puma – Full guide for all generations

The Ford Puma has been produced in two completely different generations. The procedure to reset the oil service reminder differs significantly between the first generation (1997–2002) and the modern second generation (2019–2026). Below you will find clear step-by-step instructions for both.
First generation Ford Puma (1997–2002)
- Turn the ignition key to position II (ON) – do not start the engine.
- Fully press and hold the accelerator pedal to the floor.
- While holding the accelerator, press the brake pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
- Release both pedals.
- Turn the ignition off and then back on again.
- The oil service light should now be reset.
Note: This method works on almost all 1.4L and 1.7L petrol models from 1997 to 2002.
Second generation Ford Puma (2019–2026)
This generation uses a fully digital instrument cluster and an intelligent oil life monitoring system. There are two reliable methods.
Method 1: Using Steering Wheel Controls (Recommended)
- Sit in the vehicle and close the door.
- Press the START/STOP button to turn the ignition ON (do not press the brake pedal and do not start the engine).
- On the right side of the steering wheel, use the arrow buttons to navigate to the Service or Oil Life menu on the instrument cluster.
- Highlight the oil service reminder.
- Press and hold the OK button for 5 to 8 seconds.
- You will see the message “Oil Life Reset in Progress” followed by “Reset Complete” or the oil life percentage changing to 100%.
- Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to confirm the light is gone.
Method 2: Accelerator + Brake Pedal Method
- Turn the ignition ON (engine off).
- Fully press the accelerator pedal to the floor.
- While holding the accelerator, also press the brake pedal firmly.
- Hold both pedals down for 15–20 seconds.
- You should see the service light flash or a reset confirmation on the display.
- Release the pedals, turn the ignition off, then start the engine.
Additional information
- Both petrol (1.0 EcoBoost) and mild-hybrid (mHEV) versions of the 2019–2026 Puma use the same reset procedure.
- Always reset the service light only after you have replaced the engine oil and oil filter.
- If the service light returns shortly after resetting, it may indicate another maintenance item is due (e.g. cabin filter, brake fluid) or there is a fault in the system. In this case, it is recommended to scan the vehicle with an OBD-II tool.
- On some very early 2019 models, the menu navigation may look slightly different, but the OK button hold method still works.
Resetting the oil service reminder is a simple procedure that takes less than one minute and keeps your Ford Puma’s maintenance system accurate. Performing this reset after every oil change will help maintain the reliability and performance of your engine.
